The Destiny to Beat Depression

It is okay if you’re going through something. Depression is not okay, but it is okay to go get help.~Michelle Williams

When depression wants to interrupts someone’s life, it never takes into consideration who the person is. It does not care about their race, their sexuality, nor their socio-economic status. Depression hits anyone that it is able to creep up on. It feels that it is an equal opportunist and that everyone is a target. Even though we speak about depression being real and are speaking about the importance about seeking help, it is important that we practice what we speak. Destiny’s Child member Michele Williams is not shy about her battles with depression. She has shared that she has been battling depression since she was thirteen years old. Even when she was at the height of her career,  often times she would still feel very low. She thought that it was a part of living and that it would pass on. Once she realized that she was dealing with depression, she began to take control of her mental health. She began speaking out publicly about her battle with depression and began being an advocate for mental health.

Michelle continues to fight her battle with depression. She realize that her battle is overcoming her and took the initiative to seek help again to help win. Many advocates speak about their past battles, but never their present battles. You do not hear many people who are advocating for mental health continue to seek help. They usually speak on how they overcame it yet never discuss any continual battles. Michelle isn’t a superwoman. She has not overcome depression. She is still  in the battlefield. But what makes her a soldier is that she is not letting it get the best of her. She recognizes that she has to get right and that means that sometimes she has to get extra help. Michelle recognizes that she has to practice what she preaches to the world about seeking help when it is needed. Michelle is a true fighter and will be able to continue to break the barriers of mental health.
