The day you take complete responsibility for yourself, the day you stop making any excuses, that’s the day you start to the top. ~O.J. Simpson
Picture being drafted in the first round of the NFL to the North Carolina Panthers. A newly formed team that gives you a chance to truly make a name for yourself and become a part of the foundation for a franchise. You would be focused on living your best life on the field and off the field. So how do you end up going to prison for eighteen years? Well, that is easy. It is due to thinking that you are unbalanced and above the law. You think that since you are untouchable and above the law. Learning from Rae Carruth, you see that it is not true.
We all know that Rae planned out a heinous crime (he didn’t pull the trigger but he guided the target). After eighteen years of being in prison, Rae is back into society (with a nine month check in). He has to get back into the swing of things in life and learn how to adjust. He has to accept that he will forever be ridiculed while in North Carolina. He may have a tough time making a living due to having a name that infamously stands out.
Hopefully Rae will do what O.J. should have done. Which is lay low and attempt to blend in. Hopefully he will not bring attention to himself by writing a book and doing interviews. Honestly, what is there to say beside, I messed up my life, I have taken a life, and I crippled a life.
With all of this being stated, I hope that Rae finds peace in his life and continues to mentally ask for forgiveness.
