A Letter to Lamar

Dear Lamar Odom,

I know that you don’t me but I know you. I know you from being a fan of your craft. I know you from being a fan of your marriage with your wife. I also know you from being a mental health counselor and recognizing that you need help. The tabloids have stated that you have a drug issue and that you have had one for quite some time. Although that may be true (in which I hope it isn’t) there are deeper issues that you have that probably has never been dealt with. What people fail to realize, or maybe fail to remember is that so much has happened in your life, even before you was superstar Lamar Odom. You have had so much turmoil to take place in your life that no one has ever asked “are you ok?” You lost your mother at the tender age of twelve and you lost an infant son in 2006. And to top it all off, you had to encounter a fatal accident that took a life as you were going to a funeral of a family member. That is a lot for a person to handle, especially if they never had an outlet to deal with it. You masked your issues very well but it appears that everything started to go downhill due to a drastic decision that was made in reference of your career. It appears that grief is something that you have been encountering but possibly have not dealt with. It could be that you felt that you didn’t have an issue and that it would pass over. It could also be that you wanted the help but did not know how to express it so you possibly turned to other alternatives. But now those issues that are so deeply rooted are now sprouting and are taking over your life and could possibly ruin it. I’m not saying you have a drug problem because you haven’t been arrested for drug charges nor have you come out saying that you do have a drug problem. But I am saying that you have a problem, which is that you are lost right now and you do not know how to be found. I hope that it does not take you to hit rock bottom to  the point that you lose everything that you have in order to recognize the issues in your life. Lamar, I hope and pray that you gain the right people in your life who wants to help you get better and to overcome your obstacles in life. During this process you may lose people you thought was there for you and you may gain people that you never thought would be there for you. But you have to realize that you have to take care of for not only you, but for your wife, and for your kids. Lamar I wish you the best on the rocky road that you are on only to come out on top and live a fulfilling life.

Sincerely,

A Person who truly cares

  1. Yes I believe that it is a deeper issue with Lamar , before he can over come anything he will have to admit that he has a problem, Lamar also will have to want to get help for himself, and hopefully his wife will stand by his side.

    1. I feel like Lamar needs to get help for all the problems he had going at the beginning, he held all that hurt and how he was feeling inside. And if he is doing drugs it’s probably because he thinks his problems are gonna go away. But he has to want help for himself.

  2. Counseling maybe all that Lamar needs. Everybody deal with problems different, and most black people don’t believe in professional help. Whether it’s drugs or emotional issues, Lamar needs to talk with a professional counselor.
